Some of my favorite ideas come from my Aunt’s kitchen.
When I was growing up, my Aunt never let good fabric go to waste. She made her own dish cloths from worn cotton towels, then backed them with soft, vintage cotton birdseye diaper cloth—a fabric that generations of homemakers treasured for one simple reason: it could soak up just about anything.
Those dish cloths weren’t fancy.
They were practical, beautifully made, and they lasted for years.
I’ve brought that same idea into my own sewing room.
Some of these cloths combines an absorbant cotton front with an exceptionally absorbent cotton birdseye backing, creating a dish cloth inspired by the resourcefulness of earlier generations. It’s a small reminder that some of the best household traditions were born not from convenience, but from making something well.
Sometimes the old ways really were the best ways.
